Classic chili bowl

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)

Steps:

  1. In a large pot, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Drain excess fat.
  2. Add the onion, bell pepper, and garlic to the pot. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, and kidney beans.
  4. Add the chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, salt, and cayenne pepper. Stir well.
  5. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low.
  6. Cover and cook for 30-45 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  7. Taste and adjust seasonings if needed before serving.
